Propuesta estratégica de comunicación para la clasificación de residuos sólidos dentro de la Fundación Universitaria Católica Lumen Gentium con la comunidad educativa durante el periodo 2022 - 01 (sede Pance)

Abstract

Solid waste is a material discarded after its useful life, which generally has no economic value. These are mainly composed of elements from materials used for the manufacture, processing and use of consumer goods. All this waste is mostly susceptible to reuse or transformation, thanks to proper recycling. The main producers of this waste are the inhabitants of large cities with very high percentages. An example of this is presented in the city of Santiago de Cali, which, in 2015, according to an article in the newspaper El País, registered 6.5% of the waste generated in Colombia.

On the other hand, from the context of the Lúmen Gentium Catholic University Foundation in alliances with other universities such as San Buenaventura, different strategies have been advanced, specifically in the Area of Social Projection, strengthening a program called 'Sustainable Campus'; which consists of promoting a culture of environmental care and sustainability in the educational community.

However, due to the measures adopted by the national government, and in the rest of the world due to Covid-19, it prevented progress in the implementation of this strategy, since the confinement led the educational community to be absent from university campuses.

A study by researchers at the University of Portsmouth in England, found that mask waste increased by 9,000% between March and October 2020, this seriously affected the way this type of waste is classified within the primary baskets, which are usually found in public places.

That is why, it was necessary to work on the dissemination of the new color code for the classification of solid waste (white: for unusable waste, black: for usable organic waste and green: for usable waste) in the institutions, indicated by the Colombian Ministry of Environment and Development, in force since January 1, 2021 in its resolution 2184 of the year 2019, applicable throughout the national territory.

This in turn, generated the idea of creating and rethinking the strategy previously seen in the institution through 'Sustainable Campus', because the educational community returns from a quarantine without contact with the new changes that have been generated with respect to the treatment of solid waste.
