Abstract

The importance of University Social Responsibility, RSU, cannot be avoided, since it frames the connection between university and community, through the practice of a set of values ​​and principles that guide the work of the academic community. In the case of UNICATHOLIC, the RSU is inspired by the social doctrine of the Church and seeks to transcend a merely philanthropic perspective in which the social projection is sized as a well-intentioned "appendage" in the central function of student training and knowledge production through from social investment. In this sense, I am convinced that social responsibility does not responds to an optional philanthropic action of the university, it is not a dispensable incidental aspect within their educational work, but rather is integrally linked to its ethos and allows it to assume a new paradigm of "social responsibility that is not merely cosmetic, but rather a profound reflection on the social meaning of the production of knowledge and professional promotion of leaders in the area of ​​science” (Vallaeys, F., s.f. p. 4).

The purpose of the Social Balance presented below is the dissemination and socialization of the different actions that UNICATÓLICA has been developing in compliance with its Social Responsibility University, during the last five years (2018-2022). structurally the Balance is divided into four major sessions:

a. Period I (2018-2019): in this space the entire commitment is consolidated structured from the Social Projection area before the reforms institutions as executor of university social responsibility to institutional level.

b. Period II (2020) or transition, given the situation of the pandemic of COVID-19 that generated difficulties in the implementation of the actions determined and forced to rethink the relationship of the university with the environment, actions in terms of university social projection are limited.

c. Period III (2021-2022): in this section we find the projection oriented from the eleven fields of action, through which the institution assumes its university social responsibility.

d. Administrative and Financial Impact: in which all the efforts that Unicatólica constantly makes to accompany the educational community, without losing sight of its social mission of providing academic programs of very good quality to the region city, especially to the most vulnerable communities and families.

I believe that this Social Balance is a valuable instrument to reflect on critically about the way in which the Institution is linked to the environment, the various actions and projects that from the academic and social run, seeking to maintain the link with our students and groups of interest, focused on providing well-being for, from an exercise socially responsible, continue accompanying the educational community and, through it, to the city-region.
